Leicester City got wrestling fans all riled up over the weekend when they made a fantastic WWE reference to announce their Cengiz Ünder transfer.

The Foxes recreated one of The Undertaker’s most memorable WrestleMania moments at King Power Stadium with a hat and trench coat places in the middle of the pitch.

It didn’t take long for people to put two and two together, and just half an hour later Brendan Rodgers’ side confirmed they had signed the Roma star on loan for the current season.

For wrestling fans, it was an obvious nod to the Phenom, who placed his trademark outfit in the middle of the ring after his match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando, Florida.

The wrestling legend himself caught wind of the tweet, and couldn’t resist popping onto Twitter himself (because that’s what The Undertaker does in 2020) to acknowledge the reference.

Sharing coffin and fox emojis, he paraphrased his own iconic catchphrase and quipped: ‘Digging holes and scoring goals… @LCFC (sic)’

The ‘Taker tribute wasn’t lost on WWE fans who loved the cheeky tribute, even if it comes months after the Dead Man called time on his legendary career. The Phenom hinted that while you can never say never, he has nothing left to prove or accomplish, and his docu-series The Last Ride gave him chance to reflect on his long run at the top of the business.

Seemingly confirming his WrestleMania Boneyard Match was the end of the road, he said: ‘I’m at a point, it’s time this cowboy really rides away. There’s nothing left for me to conquer or accomplish. The game has changed.

‘It’s time for new guys to come up. The time just seems right.

‘This documentary has helped me discover that and opened my eyes to the bigger picture and not judge myself as harshly these last few years.’
