Players of the Zimbabwe national team received presidential handshakes after the one-all draw against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
Nqobile Magwizi, the President of the Zimbabwe Football Association, treated the players on arrival to a presidential reception on arrival in the country.
Tawanda Chirewa grabbed a 91st-minute equalizer for the visitors a few minutes after he came on as a second-half substitute.
Victor Osimhen gave the Super Eagles the lead in the 74th minute with a close-range header from Ola Aina’s sublime cross to the far post.
However, Chirewa’s equalizer with less than five minutes to the match earned a point for the Brave Warriors and put a huge question mark on the Super Eagles’ chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Zimbabwe are bottom of Group C with four points from six matches, while the Super Eagles are fourth with seven points.
The Super Eagles are condemned to win their remaining four fixtures in the qualification series to stand a chance of qualifying for the World Cup.
