The Super Eagles of Nigeria travel to face Benin, needing just one point to seal qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Austin Eguavoen’s men will be full of confidence after their recent run of results, especially with the return of Victor Osimhen, who has been on fire for Galatasaray.
The 25-year-old has 8 goals in 9 appearances and his inclusion makes Nigeria even bigger favourites.
However, the Super Eagles must be wary, especially after losing 2-1 in the World Cup qualifier in June.
Here are three Benin Republic players who could upset Nigeria’s plans:
1. Steve Mounie (FC Augsburg): Mounie is a real threat, and can cause problems to any defence. The 6’3″ striker is powerful and a real menace, especially in the air.
He has 2 goals in AFCON 2025 qualifiers and 19 in 58 appearances for Benin, including loads of English Premier League experience under his belt. He joined FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga this summer and will be a big threat to the likes of William Troost-Ekong and Calvin Bassey in the Super Eagles’ defence.
2. Sessi D’Almeida (Apollon Limassol): D’Almeida is the engine room of this Benin team.
The 28-year-old has started every single one of the seven league games he’s been available for this season, and his imposing presence in the middle of the park makes him a vital component of the team.
3. Aiyegun Tosin (Lorient): Watch out for this speedy and tricky winger! Tosin has scored 2 goals and contributed 2 assists in 10 appearances for Lorient in Ligue 2 this season, and is one of those wingers with gam-changing quality.
He can play on either wing and will require close attention from Nigeria’s defense.

Defenders: Abdoul Moumini, Cedric Houtondji, Mohamed Tijani, David Kiki.
