Gerard Martín has swiftly risen through the ranks to become a notable presence in FC Barcelona’s first team.

Born on February 26, 2002, in Esplugues de Llobregat, Spain, Gerard Martín began his football journey with EF Performance and Sant Gabriel before joining Cornellà’s youth setup in 2018.

He progressed to Cornellà’s senior team, making 57 appearances between 2021 and 2023. In July 2023, he signed with Barcelona Atlètic, where he became a mainstay under Rafa Márquez, starting 41 out of 42 matches in the 2023–24 season.

His consistent performances earned him a promotion to Barcelona’s first team, where he made his La Liga debut on August 17, 2024, against Valencia. Since then, he has accumulated 24 league appearances, scoring once and providing two assists.

2. Stepping up amidst Injuries

Initially considered a backup to Alejandro Balde, Martín seized the opportunity to showcase his abilities following Balde’s injury in April 2025.

He stepped in as the starting left-back during a critical phase of the season, including the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid and key Champions League fixtures against Borussia Dortmund.

Martín’s reliable defensive performances and tactical awareness have been instrumental in maintaining Barcelona’s competitiveness across multiple fronts. His adaptability and composure under pressure have drawn praise from both fans and coaching staff.

3. Securing His Future at Barcelona

Recognizing his potential and contributions, Barcelona extended Martín’s contract until June 2028 . This move underscores the club’s confidence in his development and their commitment to nurturing homegrown talent.

Martín’s journey from the lower tiers of Spanish football to the elite level with Barcelona exemplifies determination and resilience.

As he continues to mature and refine his skills, he is poised to become an integral part of Barcelona’s defensive lineup in the years to come.
