3 Reasons Morocco Will Defeat Nigeria’s Super Falcons in The WAFCON Final

Despite Nigeria’s Super Falcons being the favorites in the 2024 WAFCON final against Morocco, three factors could lead to their defeat.

Morocco’s strong home support

Nigeria’s Super Falcons are up against it in the 2024 WAFCON final because Morocco are playing at home in Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. The loud, passionate fans could rattle Nigeria, just as they did in 2022 when Morocco beat them 5-4 on penalties in the semifinals. That game was wild—Nigeria got two red cards and dealt with laser pointers from the crowd. A rowdy atmosphere might throw the Super Falcons off their game again.

Strong attack

Morocco’s attacking duo, Ghizlane Chebbak and Ibtissam Jraïdi, have been lethal, combining for seven goals, with Chebbak’s four making her a top scorer. Nigeria’s defense is solid, conceding just one goal, but will struggle against the speed and dynamism of the hosts.

Nigeria’s Shaky Midfield

Nigeria’s midfield showed vulnerabilities against South Africa, with loose passes and poor coordination after conceding. Morocco’s dynamic, energetic midfielders could exploit this, especially if the Super Falcons continue to leave gaps in the middle of the park.

Coach Justin Madugu must address these issues to avoid a repeat of 2022’s heartbreak. Morocco’s confidence, home support, and attacking prowess make them a formidable threat, potentially ending Nigeria’s unbeaten final streak.
