3 reasons South Africa will drop points against Rwanda

South Africa head into tomorrow’s World Cup qualifier against Rwanda under pressure to secure maximum points, but several factors suggest the contest may not go their way.

Here are three key reasons Bafana Bafana could struggle.

1. Disrupted Defence and Key Absences

Hugo Broos is facing a defensive headache. Suspension has ruled out centre-backs Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Siyabonga Ngezana, forcing an improvised back line.

Any reshuffle involving inexperienced or out-of-position players risks disrupting cohesion, especially against a side that thrives on counter-attacks and set plays. One lapse could prove costly.

2. High Stakes and Mounting Pressure

South Africa are chasing points after earlier setbacks in the group, and the weight of expectation has intensified following a goalless draw with Zimbabwe.

Off-field distractions, including a previous points deduction over eligibility issues, have added to the tension. Rwanda arrive with less pressure, which could allow them to play with more confidence and freedom.

3. Rwanda’s Confidence and Tactical Edge

Rwanda have already beaten South Africa 2–0 in the reverse fixture and will believe they can frustrate them again. Their goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwali plays in the South African league and knows many of the opposition attackers well.

With organised defending and sharp forward runners like Abeddy Biramahire and Bonheur Mugisha, Rwanda are equipped to capitalise on mistakes or missed chances.
