Victor Osimhen scored his eight goal in all competitions against Torino on Sunday to keep up his scoring form. That makes it 5 goals so far in Seria A this season, that’s half of his total tally (10) last season. He already has 3 goals in the Europa League so far.
The former U17 world champion’s goal at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium gave his team the victory and made it 8 wins in 8 games for Napoli placing them at the top of the league table with two points ahead of AC Milan in second place. With his current goal scoring form, the team can finally get their third scudetto title which has eluded them for over thirty years. The last time Napoli won the league was in 1989/90 season.
The former Lille striker had an unconvincing season last term which was hindered with injuries, Covid-19 and ban. Even at that, he still had double figures and already has half of what he had last season currently. Osimhen has proven to be a prolific striker and a nightmare to defenders with his performances this season. He has already scored 8 goals in 16 games for the national team. His goal per game ratio is at 0.86 per 90 minute.
Luciano Spalleti has proven to be a good tactician so far and ever since he took over from Gattuso the team has only lost one match which was against Spartak Moscow in Europa League. His tactical prowess has helped them win games even when they go behind. He has made substitutions that has won him games this season that has been a testament to how good he is. His signings like Zambo Anguissa who has fit in so well and has brought balance to their midfield, has made the team thick. Since the arrival of Spalleti we have seen a rejuvenated Osimhen and a turnaround in the team’s fortune.
Also, with their water tight defence led by Koulibaly and Ospina between the sticks they have conceded only 3 goals in 8 games so far. Their attack has been their strength which has produced 19 goals this term. One good feature about the team under Spaletti is that they have goals coming from all departments. With Osimhen continuing in this vein and staying injury free, with the coach’s tactical know-how, and the team being built around him, his goals will definitely be pivotal in helping Napoli lift the Scudetto this season.
