European Football Roundup: FOUR-star Palmer, Man City stumble, Barca suffer shock defeat

Chelsea superstar Cole Palmer became the first Premier League player to score four goals in a single half, leading the Blues to a 4-2 win over Brighton. This victory solidifies Chelsea’s status as a force to be reckoned with this season, especially after spending over 1 billion pounds on players in the past two years.

Palmer, one of those expensive signings, proved his worth with an impressive 22 league goals last season, second only to Man City’s Erling Haaland. He’s already scored six goals in six games this campaign.

Man City, meanwhile, drew 1-1 with Newcastle, dropping points for the second consecutive weekend. Haaland was kept scoreless for the first time this season. Defender Josko Gvardiol scored City’s lone goal.

Arsenal took advantage of City’s slip-up, beating Leicester 4-2 with two stoppage-time goals. They’re now tied with City on 14 points.

Elsewhere, Liverpool needed a second-half penalty from Mohamed Salah to seal a 2-1 win over Wolves – a result that sent the Reds top of the Premier League.

The shock of the night, however, came in Spain, where Barcelona suffered their first loss of the league season, succumbing to a rampant Osasuna side in a 4-2 reverse.

Finally, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, Germany’s best teams, settled for a 1-1 draw as Vincent Kompany and Xabi Alonso canceled each other out tactically.
