The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Mediterranean Knights of Libya 1-0 in a Matchday three 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
The team led by Technical adviser Augustine Eguavoen needed a late goal by Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru to get a narrow victory against the North African side.
Nigeria 1-0 Libya
At the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the Super Eagles dominated the opening proceeding against the bottom-placed team in the group.
Despite fielding a potent attack of Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface and Atalanta creative force Ademola Lookman the Super Eagles were unable to find the breakthrough in the first 45 minutes.
Eguavoen introduced fresh legs Raphael Onyedika, Samuel Chukwueze, Taiwo Awoniyi and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru to break down the resistant Libya defense.
Lookman broke down the defense and slotted home only for the strike to be ruled out by the assistant referee.
In the 87th minute, Nigeria would go in front as Moses Simon was able to find Dele Bashiru to side-foot the cross home.
That was the only strike of the game as the Super Eagles held on for a much-needed victory to stay top in Group D.
