Jose Mourinho was sent off in a heated Europa League clash as Manchester United and Fenerbahce drew 1-1.
This result extends United’s winless streak in the competition to three games but was a much-improved performance from recent showings.
Manchester United started strong, with Christian Eriksen scoring after 15 minutes. Alejandro Garnacho sparked the counterattack, sending Eriksen through for an 18-yard finish.
However, Youssef En-Nesyri equalized for Fenerbahce shortly after halftime, heading in Allan Saint-Maximin’s cross.
Mourinho’s reunion with his former club turned sour when he was ejected from the technical area in the 60th minute. Bright Osayi-Samuel’s dramatic fall in the box sparked protests, with the ex-Chelsea boss protesting wildly and eventually taking a long while to leave the pitch after being ent-off.
Despite Fenerbahce’s momentum, United continued to create chances, and Marcus Rashford fluffed his lines when served a delicious cross. Lisandro Martinez’s shot was blocked immediately after as the Red Devils continued to push for a winner.
The draw leaves Manchester United seeking their first Europa League win, and Ten Hag’s men will now turn their attention to the Premier League action on Sunday against West Ham.
