Robert Lewandowski and Dani Olmo put an end to Brest “honeymoon” run in the UEFA Champions League.
The French side were unbeaten before traveling to the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Tuesday night.
The debutants were on a four-game unbeaten run with victories over Salzburg, Sparta Prague and Sturm Graz in their previous matches.
Brest had only dropped points away at Bayer Leverkusen en route to facing Barcelona with the hope of extending their unbeaten run.
Unfortunately, Robert Lewandowski bagged a brace in the French side 3 nil loss.
The Polish striker gave the home side the lead via a spot kick on the 10th minute to register his 6th goal of the campaign.
Marco Bizot had a busy night in between the sticks for Brest as the home side launched relentless onslaught on the visitors’ defense.
The 33-year-old Dutch goalie made a fantastic save just before halftime to deny Fermin Lopez’s goal-bound header.
Bizot once again made a brilliant save 10 minutes into the second half as he stopped Fermin Lopez’s shot from crossing the goal line.
Unfortunately, the Dutch goalkeeper couldn’t stop Dani Olmo from doubling Barcelona’s lead.
The Spanish midfielder buried a low drive into the back of the net from Gerard Martin’s pass from deep.
Lewandowski bagged his 7th goal of the competition in added time as he buried a precise shit into the bottom right corner of goal from Alejandro Balde’s pass.
He’s now the third player to reach 100 Champions League goals after Cristiano Ronaldo (140) and Lionel Messi (129).
Brest have now dropped into the playoffs zone of the competition following the loss to Barcelona with three matches left to play.
