Cristiano Ronaldo believes Vinicius Jr was unfairly denied the 2024 Ballon d’Or Men’s Player of the Year award.
Ronaldo insists Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr deserved the honor over Manchester City midfielder Rodri.
He expressed his views while addressing the audience at the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Friday evening.
The soccer legend criticized the decision, claiming the Ballon d’Or voting process was unfair. He also explained why he prefers the Globe Soccer Awards over the Ballon d’Or.
“Vinicius Jr should have won the Ballon d’Or; in my opinion, it was clear,” Ronaldo said. “It was UNFAIR. This is why I love the Globe Soccer Awards; they are honest.”
Vinicius Jr, who won the Men’s Player of the Year and Forward of the Year awards at the event, responded to Ronaldo’s praise.
“If Cristiano says I am the best, then I believe it,” the Brazilian forward said after receiving his awards.
The 2024 Ballon d’Or decision has sparked widespread debate among soccer fans, with Ronaldo being the latest football icon to voice his opinion on the matter.
Rodri, who claimed the prestigious award, earned recognition for his exceptional performances during Manchester City’s fourth consecutive league title run and Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 triumph.
