In a recent exchange highlighting the intensifying rivalry in Turkish football, Fenerbahçe manager José Mourinho and Galatasaray forward Mauro Icardi have engaged in a public spat.
The tension began when Mourinho criticized the officiating in a Galatasaray match, suggesting favorable treatment by referees. In response, Icardi took to social media, sharing an image of a fictitious book titled “Crying One,” a jab at Mourinho’s well-known moniker, “The Special One.”
Addressing the media ahead of Fenerbahçe’s Europa League match against Anderlecht, Mourinho responded with characteristic sarcasm.
He remarked, “Icardi is a GOAT. I refuse to comment on a GOAT’s words. He’s too big. I do not comment.” This was perceived as a facetious acknowledgment of Icardi’s stature in football.
Mourinho further emphasized his extensive career achievements, stating, “I have already shown I am ‘special’ with the 26 trophies I’ve won in my 25-year career. My career is not defined by one match.”
This exchange has added fuel to the already heated rivalry between Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray.
