NPFL: Remo Stars extend lead as Sunshine Stars ignite relegation battle

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Matchday 27 unfolded with thrilling encounters across various venues on Sunday. The day’s fixtures saw league leaders Remo Stars solidify their position, while Sunshine Stars reignited their fight against relegation.

Here’s a detailed roundup of the six matches played:

 

Abia Warriors 1-1 Nasarawa United

At the Umuahia Township Stadium, Abia Warriors and Nasarawa United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. The hosts took the lead through Sunday Megwo in the 35th minute.

However, Nasarawa United’s defender, Mohammed Garba, restored parity with a well-taken goal in the 41st minute as the match ended in a stalemate.

Kano Pillars 2-1 Enugu Rangers

Kano Pillars continued their impressive form with a 2-1 victory over Enugu Rangers at the Sani Abacha Stadium. The away side opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, converting a penalty.

Rabiu Ali drew the hosts level with a well taken penalty three minutes before the end of the first half.

Jerry Alex gave Pillars the lead in the 60th minute which secured all three points for the hosts.

 

Bayelsa United 2-1 Bendel Insurance

Bayelsa United secured a crucial 2-1 win over Bendel Insurance at the Samson Siasia Stadium.

Oke Kayode Solomon netted the opener for Bendel in the 37th minute. Bayelsa United’s James Emo equalized in the 42nd minute. The decisive moment came in the 65th minute when Bina Tombiri scored the winner for the home team.

 

Niger Tornadoes 0-1 Enyimba

Enyimba grabbed a vital away win against Niger Tornadoes at the Bako Kontagora Stadium. The solitary goal came from Joseph Atule in the 62nd minute, ensuring Enyimba’s push for a top-four finish remains on track.

Remo Stars 1-0 Plateau United

League leaders Remo Stars edged Plateau United 1-0 at the Remo Stars Stadium. Samson Olasupo scored the only goal of the match in the 74th minute, extending Remo Stars’ lead at the top of the table to 12 points.

 

Ikorodu City 2-0 Heartland

Ikorodu City continued their impressive home form with a 2-0 victory over Heartland at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.

Leonard Ngenge opened the scoring in the 9th minute before Cole Ayomide sealed the win with a goal in the 58th minute.
