Barcelona star, Pedri has hailed goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny for ‘saving’ the team with his outstanding display during their UEFA Champions League 1-0 win over Benfica on Wednesday.
Szczesny was impressive against the hosts as he made eight saves to keep a clean sheet.
A second-half goal from Raphinha gave Barcelona the victory against Benfica at the Estadio da Luz in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 first leg tie.
Hansi Flick’s side had been reduced to 10-men after Pau Cubarsi was sent off early in the first half.
Speaking about Szczesny after the win, Pedri said (via Barca Buzz on X):
“Szczęsny has saved us many times. Under the posts, he’s huge for us.”
“He wasn’t very happy the last time he played here… today, he saved us. Grateful to have him.”
The Blaugrana will now turn their attention to the weekend’s clash against Osasuna before a daunting second leg in Portugal.
