NPFL: Remo Stars extend lead the top, Rivers win at Maiduguri as Ikorodu and Enyimba play out thrilling draw

On Sunday, March 16, 2025, the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) featured seven compelling matches across the country.

Here is a summary of the day’s action:

 

Abia Warriors 1-0 Bendel Insurance

Abia Warriors secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Bendel Insurance. The decisive goal came in the closing stages of the first half through Sunday Megwo, allowing the home side to maintain their lead throughout. Bendel Insurance struggled to break down Abia Warriors’ defense, resulting in a clean sheet for the hosts.

Mexico Overpowers South Africa in Chaotic, Historic 2026 World Cup Opener

Akwa United 2-0 Shooting Stars

Akwa United delivered a solid performance at home, defeating Shooting Stars 2-0.

The team displayed tactical superiority, with the goals coming within seven minutes of each other.

Endurance Ebedebiri opened the scoring in the 61st minute before Uche Sabastine sealed the win in the 68th minute.

 

Bayelsa United 1–0 Lobi Stars 

In a closely contested match, Bayelsa United emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over Lobi Stars. The home team managed to capitalize on a scoring opportunity, with Magbisa Wisdom scoring the decisive goal in the 55th minute while Lobi Stars were unable to find an equalizer.

 

Remo Stars 2-0 Heartland

Remo Stars continued their impressive form with a 2-0 victory against Heartland.

Olamilekan Adedayo opened the scoring in the 31st minute before Samson Olasupo rounded up a good afternoon for the high flying hosts in the 80th minute.

 

Ikorodu City 2-2 Enyimba

In an entertaining encounter, Ikorodu City and Enyimba played out a 2-2 draw. Both teams showcased attacking intent, resulting in a thrilling match with goals aplenty.

Tosin Oyedokun fired Ikorodu into the lead four minutes before the break. Mujeeb Odufeso equalized for the visitors in the 67th minute before Joseph Atule gave them the lead in the 73rd minute.

Ayomide Cole drew the hosts level late into stoppage time in the 98th minute as both teams settled for a draw.

Kano Pillars 1–1 Nasarawa United 

Kano Pillars and Nasarawa United played to a 1-1 draw at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano. The home side took the lead in the 18th minute through Ali Malam. Nasarawa United responded in the second half, with Idris Ajiya equalizing in the 68th minute.

 

El Kanemi 1–2 Rivers United

Rivers United secured a 2-1 victory over El Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri. Taofeek Otaniyi gave the vistors the lead in the 47th minute before Samson Obi doubled the lead in the 61st minute.

Risilanu Ismail scored a late consolation for the hosts in the 95th minute but it was not enough as the visitors secured all three points.
