1. Two-Time Heavyweight Champion
Foreman first won the heavyweight title in 1973 when he knocked out Joe Frazier in the second round, cementing his reputation as one of the hardest punchers in boxing history.
After retiring in 1977, he made a stunning comeback in the late 1980s and, in 1994, at the age of 45, he defeated Michael Moorer to reclaim the title—becoming the oldest heavyweight champion in history at the time.
2. Legendary “Rumble in the Jungle” Fight
One of Foreman’s most famous fights was against Muhammad Ali in 1974, known as the “Rumble in the Jungle.” Ali used his famous “rope-a-dope” strategy to tire Foreman out before knocking him out in the eighth round.
Despite the loss, the fight remains one of the most legendary moments in boxing history.
3. Successful Entrepreneur with the George Foreman Grill
After retiring from boxing, Foreman became a successful businessman. His most famous venture is the George Foreman Grill, which became a massive success. Launched in the 1990s, the grill has sold over 100 million units worldwide, making Foreman a household name outside of boxing.
4. Changed His Lifestyle and Became a Preacher
After his first retirement in 1977, Foreman had a religious experience and became a Christian minister. He founded The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Houston, Texas, and dedicated much of his life to preaching and helping the community. His faith played a major role in his decision to return to boxing in the late 1980s.
5. Inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame
