UEFA has initiated an investigation into the conduct of four Real Madrid players—Antonio Rüdiger, Kylian Mbappé, Dani Ceballos, and Vinícius Júnior—following their celebrations after the UEFA Champions League match against Atlético Madrid on March 12, 2025.

The inquiry focuses on allegations of inappropriate behavior during the post-match festivities at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Real Madrid secured their place in the quarterfinals after a penalty shootout victory over Atlético, concluding a tense encounter that ended 2-2 on aggregate.

The subsequent celebrations by some Real Madrid players have come under scrutiny, with reports indicating that UEFA has appointed an Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector to examine the incidents.

Spanish media outlets have detailed specific actions by the players in question. Antonio Rüdiger is reported to have made a throat-slitting gesture towards the home crowd.

Dani Ceballos and Kylian Mbappé allegedly directed derogatory gestures at the stands, while Vinícius Júnior reportedly placed his jacket on the field, pointing towards the club’s emblem.

The investigation follows a formal complaint lodged by Atlético Madrid, who submitted video evidence to UEFA highlighting the players’ behavior during the celebrations.

The club contends that these actions were provocative and contributed to escalating tensions within the stadium.

In response to the investigation, Real Madrid is expected to present arguments to mitigate potential sanctions, asserting that their players were reacting to provocations from the crowd.

The outcome of UEFA’s inquiry could lead to financial penalties or suspensions, depending on the findings of the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee.

As the investigation progresses, UEFA has stated that further information will be provided in due course. The football community awaits the results, which could have significant implications for Real Madrid’s upcoming fixtures in the Champions League.
