The Nigeria Football Federation have dismissed a report that Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle is considering terminating his contract after two games in charge.

Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana posted a tweet on his X page on April 1st, claiming that the 49-year-old coach is looking to terminate his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation.

“Eric Chelle is considering terminating his contract as Super Eagles manager. Sources within the NFF say that uncertainty over his fate beyond the FIFA World Cup qualifying series has led to a dramatic change of heart. The NFF will hold a crisis meeting to address the matter.”

The tweet generated quite a lot of reactions from fans online, but it turned out to be a prank on the Nigerian football lovers on April Fool’s Day.

Ademola Olajire, the director of media and communications of the NFF, assured fans that the tweet is not true while assuring Nigerians that Eric Chelle is committed to ensuring the Super Eagles qualify for the 2026 World Cup

“This is April Fool prank by Osasu Obayiuwana,”

However, Super Eagles’ route to qualifying for the World Cup looks quite bleak with seven points after six matches. Eric Chelle failed to secure six points in the March window of the qualifiers with a win over Rwanda in Kigali and a one-all draw at home to Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, South Africa are top of Group C with 13 points, while Rwanda and Benin Republic are in second and third place, respectively, with eight points.
