Manchester United’s former midfielder Nemanja Matic has responded to Andre Onana’s comments on Lyon ahead of the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash.
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana reportedly said the Red Devils are a better team than Lyon in a pre-match comment.
Nemanja Matic, during the press briefing, responded to Onana’s comments as he termed the former Ajax goalkeeper as the worst in the history of the club.
Matic added that if former Manchester United goalkeepers David De Gea, Edwin Van Der Sar, and Peter Schmeichel had commented, he would have respected their opinions.
“Onana said they’re way better than us? When you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United history, you need to take care what you’re talking about”. “If it was Van der Sar, Schmeichel or de Gea saying that, ok… but Onana, he’s one of the worst”.
Andre Onana in response to Matic, says he would never disrespect any club. He added that he and his teammates are focused on the game against Lyon tomorrow. Onana also shaded Matic with the number of trophies he has won with Manchester United as the former left the Red Devils without one.
I would never be disrespectful to another club. We know that tomorrow will be a difficult game against a strong opponent. We focus on preparing a performance to make our fans proud. At least I’ve lifted trophies with the greatest club in the world. Some can’t say the same.
Nemanja Matic played for the Red Devils between 2017 and 202 before leaving for Roma afterwards. The Serbian midfielder arrived from Chelsea for a fee in the region of £40 million.
Lyon hosts Manchester United in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday night, and Andre Onana and Nemanja Matic are expected to start for their respective clubs.
