Real Madrid’s midfielder Jude Bellingham says he is drawing inspiration from the club’s archives of comebacks in the Champions League ahead of Arsenal’s visit to the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
The defending champions are in quite a difficult spot after losing three-nil in the first leg of the quarter-final tie at the Emirates Stadium last week.
The English midfielder revealed he and his teammate have been nursing a comeback against Mike Arteta’s men immediately after they got on the bus, after the humiliating loss.
Ahead of the crunch tie, Bellingham says he has been watching videos of Real Madrid’s comebacks in the 1970s and 1980s, and believes Real Madrid will carry that mentality when they face the Gunners.
By the time we were back in the bus in London, we were all believing that we could come back in the tie”. “We are going with the mentality that only a comeback is possible. We have confidence because of the clubs history. The comebacks in the 70’s and 80’s… I’ve seen them on TikTok”. “That’s my source of education”
Arsenal are in a prime position to qualify for their first UEFA Champions League semi-final for the first time since the 2008/2009 season of the competition.
The Gunners also take pride in being unbeaten against Real Madrid in the Champions League in three previous meetings with the latest being the 3-0 victory at the Emirates last week.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid have announced that the roof of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium will be closed on Wednesday to create an intimidating atmosphere for the visitors.
