Nottingham Forest’s chase for Champions League football is back on back after getting maximum points over Tottenham away from home.

The chase suffered two setbacks in the previous weeks after Nottingham Forest lost consecutive Premier League games to Everton and Aston Villa.

However. Nuno Espirito Santo’s return to his former home ground ended on a happy note as he led the Tricky Trees to victory.

Nottingham Forest unsettled Ange Postecoglu’s men as they raced into the lead with two early goals.

Elliot Anderson put the visitors ahead with a long range effort which ricoshet off a Tottenham Hotspur player en route to landing into the back of the net.

While Tottenham were in sixes and sevens, Nottingham Forest struck like thunder again. Fortunately, Chris Wood’s goal was ruled for offside after VAR review.

Nevertheless, the New Zealand striker scored his 19th Premier League goal moments later as he latched on to Anthony Elanga’s cross with a header to double the lead.

The first half ended 2-0 as Tottenham Hotspur struggled to make any meaningful impact or threat in the first 45 minutes.

However, the home side got into the game within the opening quarter of the second half. Dejan Kulusevski’s header almost went in hut was cleared off the line by Harry Toffolo.

Matz Sels dived to the ground swiftly to deny Richarlison’s sublime headee from crossing the line a few moments later.

However, the Brazilian striker beat the Belgian goalkeeper on his second attempt as he directed Pedro Porro’s measured cross with a header into the bottom corner.

Unfortunately, the visitors “closed shop” to protect their lead as the game ended 2-1.

Nottingham Forest are back in contention for a Champions League place as they currently occupy third spot on the log with 60 points after 33 matches.
