Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins says the current team is lacking a major ingredient even though it has the individual quality.

Martins, fondly called “Weapon of mass destruction” revealed that the team is lacks cohesion and doesn’t play as a collective.

The former Newcastle striker added that while a few players like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and a few others contributes their respective quota, the team need to get on board and play as a unit in order to attain success.

“Osimhen as a striker is doing his, Lookman is doing his,  you know, but we need a collective team effort to play together and win together.

“Osimhen can score 100 goals, and if you don’t go anywhere, it’s like the goals are nothing.”

Martins’ comments come after the Super Eagles disappointing outing in the March window of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series.

The Super Eagles failed to get their qualification for the World Cup back on track following a win away at Rwanda and a draw at home to Zimbabwe.

The result put the three-time African champions at risk of missing out of the World Cup again after they failed to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Obafemi Martins believes individual quality is not enough to see the Super Eagles get back to where they belong except a collective spirit and a sense of cohesion are added.
