Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly made progress in talks with Erik ten Hag over becoming the club’s new head coach.
Ten Hag is now the frontrunner to replace Xabi Alonso, who is set to leave Leverkusen for Real Madrid.
Initially, Leverkusen had been interested in appointing Como coach Cesc Fabregas, but Como are determined to keep hold of the Spaniard.
Leverkusen have now turned their attention to Ten Hag, who has been out of work since leaving Manchester United in October.
The Dutchman was sacked at Old Trafford after a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign, despite winning silverware in each of his two seasons in charge. He led Manchester United to League Cup success in his debut year and lifted the FA Cup in 2023/24.

According to Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between Ten Hag and Leverkusen have progressed well, with the 55-year-old keen on the move to the BayArena.
This move would mark a return to Germany for the former Ajax boss, who previously coached Bayern Munich’s second side from 2013 to 2015.
Ten Hag will get the chance to work with Super Eagles stars Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella.
