Tolu Arokodare came off the bench to help Nigeria’s Super Eagles avoid defeat against Russia in Moscow.
Russia dominated the first half and took the lead through an unfortunate own goal by Nigeria’s defender Semi Ajayi.
The home side’s intensity and technical quality put the Eagles under constant pressure, testing their defensive resolve.
However, Nigeria capitalised on a costly mistake from Russia’s goalkeeper in the second half. A sloppy back pass was seized upon by Arokodare, who came off the bench to replace Boniface.
The striker showed great pressing and composure to slot home his first goal for the Super Eagles in the 71st minute, earning Nigeria a valuable draw and ending Russia’s impressive winning streak.
Boniface was once again unable to make his mark in the Nigeria jersey, offering very little before being hauled off by Eric Chelle after 65 minutes.
