Aliyu Zubairu, coach of Nigeria’s Under-20 men’s football team the Flying Eagles, has vowed to improve the team ahead of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup later this year.
The El Kanemi Football Club coach says he will address the challenges his team faced at the Nations Cup, where Nigeria finished third.
He admitted that the inability of his team to convert chances at the tournament needs to be addressed before the World Cup.
We’ll be inviting more players to bolster all departments. We must fix the issues we saw at the AFCON, especially our finishing,” Zubairu said to All Nigeria Soccer
“Though we narrowly missed the AFCON title, qualifying for the World Cup is a huge achievement. Now, we must look ahead and do even better.”
Nigeria have been drawn in Group F of the 2025 U20 World Cup, alongside Colombia, Norway, and Saudi Arabia.
Chile will host the tournament from September 27 to October 19.
Aliyu Zubairu will look to better Samson Sia Sia’s record in 2005 where he led the team to a second-place finish in Netherlands.
