Fluminense pulled off a stunning upset today with a 2‑0 win over Inter Milan in the Club World Cup Round of 16 at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium.
Right from the opening whistle they disrupted Inter’s rhythm, and within three minutes Germán Cano put them ahead by heading home a deflected cross—a goal born from Fluminense’s high-pressure start.
Inter struggled to generate clear-cut chances: despite dominating possession, their best opportunity came when Lautaro Martínez struck the post late on, and Stefan de Vrij also had a close-range miss.
Fluminense goalkeeper Fábio was alert, making several critical saves to protect the lead, including denying Dimarco and Martinez.
As fatigue set in towards the end, Fluminense remained composed and clinical. In the 90+3rd minute substitute Hércules sealed the victory with a low, well-placed finish into the corner after a defensive scramble.
