Chelsea boss, Enzo Maresca has revealed that the club needs to sign a new central defender ahead of the new football season.
The Blues picked up a two-nil win over Erik Ten Hag’s Bayer Leverkusen in a warm-up match at Stamford Bridge on Friday evening.
New signings Estêvão and Joao Pedro scored in both halves to give Chelsea a comfortable win heading into their season-opener against Crystal Palace next week.
Speaking after the match, Maresca told the media that his ambition is to sign a new central defender.
“It’s a priority for me to get a new centre back. We will see if we go for it”.
This comes after the Lewis Colwill’s long term injury.
The English defender is sweet to miss a large chunk of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury on his first training session back from the summer break.
