3 reasons CHAN Eagles risk defeat against Sudan

The CHAN Eagles face Sudan tomorrow in a make-or-break clash, but Nigeria’s home-based side will need to overcome glaring weaknesses if they are to avoid a damaging setback.

Based on recent performances and squad dynamics, here are three key factors that could tilt the contest in Sudan’s favour.

1. Disjointed Team Chemistry

Nigeria’s build-up to the game has been far from ideal. Limited time in camp, coupled with a shortage of high-quality friendly matches, has left the squad still searching for rhythm.

Misplaced passes, poor positional awareness, and defensive confusion have been recurring problems and vulnerabilities Sudan’s well-drilled attack will be eager to exploit.

2. Wastefulness in Front of Goal

The CHAN Eagles have been creating chances but failing to finish them. Their recent games have exposed a worrying lack of composure in the final third, with attackers snatching at shots or hesitating at crucial moments.

Against Sudan’s experienced and organised back line, missed chances could quickly turn into counter-attacking opportunities for the opposition.

3. Sudan’s Experience and Physical Edge

Sudan’s CHAN squad is built around a core of players who have played together for years, giving them tactical fluency and understanding. Add to that their physical strength, particularly in aerial battles and set-piece situations and Nigeria could find themselves second best in duels, especially if they fail to match Sudan’s intensity from the first whistle.

For the CHAN Eagles, tomorrow’s match is as much a test of mental sharpness and tactical discipline as it is of skill. Anything less than a near-flawless display may see Sudan walk away with the points.
