Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has reacted to the ouster of the African Nations Championship after the embarrassing loss to Sudan in their second match at the tournament on Tuesday evening at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar City.
Eric Chelle’s men fell to a heavy loss to the Sudanese team as they bowed out of the competition following a four-nil thrashing.
Omer Abdelrazig bagged a brace on the night, while Walieldin Khidir converted a penalty. CHAN Eagles’ Leonard Ngenge’s own goal confirmed Nigeria’s exit from the competition after two games with no points or a goal.
Ideye insists he will be fit to face Ethiopia - Daily Post Nigeria
In a post-match reaction, Brown Ideye attributed the team’s elimination from the group stage of the competition to the poor quality of the league and its players. He added that Nigeria doesn’t have what it takes to compete at the highest level of football.
Ideye shared his opinion in a tweet he shared on his X handle on Wednesday:
Let’s keep lying to ourselves and keep blaming someone else every time we fail. We’re not good enough; that’s the bitter truth. It’s what you have, the coach will work with period. And we don’t have what it takes to compete on the bigger stage. And we keep lying to ourselves.
The CHAN Eagles are yet to score in the tournament as they take on Congo in their final group game on Tuesday next week in Dar es Salaam.
