South Sudan, Mali and Egypt Shine in Dominant AfroBasket Wins

South Sudan produced a statement performance at the 2025 AfroBasket, crushing Libya 115–52 to register the tournament’s biggest winning margin so far.

It was a ruthless response to their opening defeat, with all 12 players getting on the scoresheet and captain Nuni Omot leading the way with a double-double. Libya struggled from start to finish, committing multiple early turnovers and shooting poorly from the field.

Mali also enjoyed a breakthrough, beating Uganda 85–70 in Luanda to claim their first win of the competition. Mahamane Coulibaly’s 25 points set the tone, while Aliou Diarra added a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Uganda’s Deng John Geu posted a game-high 27 points, supported by Robinson Opong’s 19, but their resistance faltered after a dominant third quarter from the Malians.

Egypt continued their impressive run in Group D, defeating Senegal 91–77 in Luanda. Mido Taha led the way with a brilliant 22-point outing, while Ehab Amin added a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Amr el Gendy also contributed 11 crucial points off the bench. Senegal tried to rally but Egypt’s balanced attack and aggressive defense proved decisive. Egypt’s sharpshooting from deep (10-for-22 on threes), 40 paint points, and 33 bench points sealed the victory.

In the other Group C clash, Angola edged past Guinea 84–68. Angola turned the game around with a dominant second half—particularly in the third and fourth quarters—while Guinea held their own early but couldn’t sustain the challenge.
