Aston Villa defender, Ezri Konsa is the first player to receive a red card in the 2025/2026 Premier League season in Aston Villa’s first match of the season.

The defender was sent off six minutes after the hour mark after he brought down Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon who was through on goal.

Newcastle United were without want-away striker Alexander Isak in the tie but showed decent effort towards goal even though the tie ended goalless.

Konsa Red Card

Summer signing, Anthony Elanga came close to giving the visitors the lead just three minutes into the match as he powered a shot towards goal but Marco Bizot was alert to deny the former Manchester United winger.

Marco Bizot was alert again a few minutes later to deny Anthony Gordon’s volley aimed at goal as the first half ended goalless.

Aston Villa got their first real chance at goal two minutes into the second half Nick Pope showed great reflexes to deny Boubacar Kamara’s header from hitting the back of the net.

Konsa’s red card saw Unai Emery’s men revert back to defense as Newcastle dominated but couldn’t find the breakthrough as both teams settled for a point each.
