Arsenal have officially confirmed the signing of England international Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace in a deal worth £67.5 million.
The transfer includes £60 million upfront with a further £7.5 million in add-ons, while his former club Queens Park Rangers will benefit from a sell-on clause entitling them to 15 percent of the profit.
The move marks one of the most dramatic twists of the summer window, as Tottenham Hotspur had been in advanced talks before Arsenal stepped in late to secure his signature.
Arsenal marked the announcement with a powerful video featuring club legend Ian Wright. In the clip, Wright delivers an inspiring monologue: “Do you want to create? Do you want to excite? Do you want to raise levels, raise hairs, raise the roof? … Do you want to realise those dreams? Do you want the Arsenal?”
Eze then appears, responding simply: “Obviously.” The two share a heartfelt embrace, before Wright closes with the line: “Welcome to the Arsenal, my friend.”
Eze has signed a four-year contract with an option for a further year and will wear the iconic No. 10 shirt at the Emirates Stadium. His arrival comes at a key moment, with Kai Havertz sidelined by a knee injury, and is expected to give Arsenal more cutting edge in breaking down stubborn defenses.
For Eze, the move represents something of a homecoming. Released by Arsenal as a teenager, he grew up a boyhood supporter of the club and now returns at the peak of his career as one of the Premier League’s most admired attacking talents.
The signing has sparked excitement among Arsenal supporters, many of whom regard it as a statement of intent and a major coup over their north London rivals.
