The Rwandan national team, the Amavubi, have settled into Uyo as they step up preparations for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.
The team held their first training session on Wednesday at the practice pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, with head coach Adel Amrouche overseeing a full squad of 24 players.

The delegation arrived in Uyo on Tuesday evening after flying in from Kigali, via Lagos, and are lodged at the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort. They are expected to continue their build-up with another session on Thursday before Saturday’s decisive Group C encounter.
Rwanda currently sit second in the group with eight points from six matches, one point above Nigeria who are in fourth place. With the group still finely balanced, Saturday’s clash could prove pivotal in deciding the path to the 2026 World Cup.
Both sides know what is at stake, and while Rwanda will look to build on their solid campaign so far, Nigeria will be desperate to secure a home victory to revive their qualification hopes.
