A couple of things were worthy of note on the first night of matchday 1 of the UEFA Champions League.

Arsenal and Real Madrid recorded wins expectedly but a couple of results left fans shocked.

A total of 23 goals were scored from six matches with Juventus and Borussia producing adding to the classics of the competition with an interesting eight-goal thriller in Turin.

Below are the few things that caught our attention

1. A night for the debutants

Two debutants, Union Royale SG and Qarabag marked their debut in the competition in grand style. Belgian champions, Union Royale SG recorded a commanding 3-1 over Dutch side PSV away from home.

Qarabag even marked their debut in a better fashion as they came from two goals down to earn a deserved 3-2 win over Benfica in Lisbon.

2. Milestone Mbappe

The French captain reached his 50th goal for Real Madrid in the 2-1 win over Marseille at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night. Mbappe converted two spot kicks to give Los Blancos a 2-1 victory after conceding first in the tie.

3. Record-tieing thriller in Turin

Juventus and Borussia Dortmund treated fans to a thriller at the Allianz Stadium as the match ended 4-4. What made a classic is that all right goals were scored in the second half! Can you imagine? What a match indeed!

This is the second time a Champions League match would witness eight goals in second half. The first was last season as Bayern Munich smashed Dinamo Zagreb 9-2.
