La Liga president Javier Tebas has pointed the major reason why Lamine Yamal lost the 2025 Ballon d’or to Ousmane Dembele.
The French and PSG winger beat the Barcelona young star to the award in a ceremony held in Paris on Tuesday night.
Ousmane Dembele won the prestigious prize after a brilliant performance last season helping PSG win a domestic treble and the UEFA Champions League for the first time.
Javier Tebas, while reacting to Dembele’s triumph, Tebas said Yamal missed out on the award because of his age.
He added that if he had been a bit older, he would have won it ahead of Dembele who became the second French player to win the Ballon d’or after Karim Benzema.
“If he had been older than 23, he would have won it, too. I’m sure but since he was younger, they gave him the other one.”
Meanwhile, the 18-year-old forward won the Kepa Award as the best under 23 player for the second consecutive time.
