Esther Okoronkwo wins first-ever NSL Supporters Shield with AFC Toronto

Super Falcons forward, Esther Okoronkwo, made history with AFC Toronto on Sunday evening as the first club to win the inaugural edition of the Northern Soccer League Supporters Shield title.

Okoronkwo scored eight goals and provided even assists as AFC Toronto finished top of the league with 51 points from 25 matches.

On the final day of the league, the 28-year-old forward provided an assist in the 2-1 win over Montreal Roses.

“It feels good, it feels really amazing. We really worked hard for this from the beginning of the season. So, to see our dreams get accomplished, we are very happy,” Okoronkwo told the media in a post-match reaction.

The versatile forward also went on to thank the AFC Toronto fans for their support through the season.

Esther Okoronkwo had a stellar performance with the Super Falcons in July at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

She scored twice and provided six assists – two in the final against the host as the Super Falcons won a record 10th title.

Okoronkwo is in contention to win the 2025 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award to wrap up a remarkable year.

Esther Okoronkwo bagged her debut nomination for the prestigious award on Saturday and will contend with her national team captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, and eight others for the prize later in the year.
