NFF reschedules Super Eagles March friendlies as US/Iran war lingers

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revealed that the friendly matches against Iran and Jordan scheduled for the Super Eagles are being considered for relocation to Europe, given the ongoing hostilities between the United States, Israel, and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles were meant to play Iran and Jordan in a mini tournament in Jordan later this month but the possibility of Jordan hosting the matches is becoming unlikely.

A source in the NFF told ESPN US-based Nigerian journalist, Colin Udoh that the Super Eagles will no longer play Iran only Jordan and the venue is very likely to be in Europe.

The ongoing war between the United States, Isreal and Iran involving other belligerents has seen a halt in football activities in the region.

Colin Udoh revealed the development in a post he shared on his X page on Friday.

“An NFF source tells me the mini-tournament that the Super Eagles were scheduled to play this month will be relocated, possibly to Europe, due to the situation in the Middle East. But Iran will no longer participate,” Colin Udoh revealed.

“However, in the event that a tournament is not possible, organisers are working on a single game between Nigeria and Jordan with the location also in Europe.”

“On his part, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau told me when I asked him earlier this: “We are monitoring the situation for now, we still have three weeks.”

Meanwhile, Nigeria are still awaiting the decision of FIFA in the petition against DR Congo, which it submitted following the use of some ineligible players during the CAF FIFA World Cup playoffs in November.
