Adesanya Slumps to 4th Straight Defeat as Pyfer Secures Statement Win in Seattle

Israel Adesanya suffered the worst run of his career on Saturday night, falling to Joe Pyfer via second-round TKO in the main event of a UFC Fight Night Seattle bout.

Inside the Climate Pledge Arena, Adesanya started like a man looking to remind the division of his pedigree. His trademark calf kicks landed early, slowing Pyfer and giving the former champion control of the opening round.

That control did not last.

Early in the second round, Pyfer flipped the fight with a heavy right hand that stunned Adesanya and forced him backward to the fence. Smelling opportunity, the American pressed forward, secured a takedown, and advanced quickly to full mount. From there, he unleashed a sustained barrage of ground-and-pound.

Referee Herb Dean stepped in at 4:18 of Round 2, bringing an emphatic end to the contest.

A Defining Moment for Both Fighters

For Pyfer, the win is the biggest of his career.

The 27-year-old, who came into the fight ranked outside the top ten, is now expected to break into the middleweight elite. Defeating a name like Adesanya does not just move you up the rankings, it changes how the division sees you.

For Adesanya, the questions are getting louder.

This defeat makes it four straight losses, following setbacks against Sean Strickland, Dricus du Plessis, and Nassourdine Imavov. It is unfamiliar territory for a fighter who once dominated the middleweight division.

Still, he dismissed any talk of walking away.

“I’m not leaving. You’ll never stop me,” Adesanya said after the fight, pushing back against growing retirement speculation.
