Former William Troost-Ekong has expressed confidence that the Nigeria national football team will progress from what he described as a difficult AFCON 2027 qualifying group.
Nigeria were drawn in Group L of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), PAMOJA 2027 qualifiers alongside Madagascar, co-hosts Tanzania and Guinea-Bissau.
Speaking after the draw, Troost-Ekong told CAF that the group presents a serious challenge, especially with the expected difficulty of away fixtures, which he believes could decide qualification.
He, however, insisted that the Super Eagles have the quality and mentality to secure qualification despite the strong opposition.
“It is not an easy group, but I trust them to get over the line,” Ekong said.
The AFCON 2027 qualifiers are scheduled to begin with Matchdays 1 and 2 during the FIFA window from 21 September to 6 October 2026. Matchdays 3 and 4 will follow between 9 and 17 November 2026, while the final rounds will be played from 22 to 30 March 2027.
