Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has expanded Nigeria’s Unity Cup squad, adding two new players to the original 27-man list ahead of the tournament in London.
Eric Chelle invited Yira Sor of KRC Genk and Tijani Al Ameen of Shooting Stars SC, bringing the total squad size to 28.
The Super Eagles will defend their Unity Cup title against Zimbabwe, India, and Jamaica in the four-nation competition.
Al Ameen’s inclusion boosts the home-based contingent in the squad to eight players. Chelle had already called up several Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) standouts — Tosin Oyedokun, Aderemi Adeoye, and Michael Atata from Ikorodu City; Chibueze Oputa and Obinna Igboke from Rangers International; and Elias Ochobi from Rivers United.
Yira Sor returns to the squad after a strong season in Belgium, though he struggled to make a significant impact during Nigeria’s friendly against Jordan in March.
Reports link his recall to the absence of Zadok Yohanna, whose Swedish club AIK refused to release him for the tournament due to club commitments.
Nigeria open their title defence later this month in London. Chelle also plans to use the Unity Cup as preparation for the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
The Super Eagles will hope to win a third Unity Cup title having won the last two editions.
