Cote d’Ivoire secured Africa’s first win at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The Elephants picked maximum points over Ecuador at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia in the early hours of Monday morning.
Manchester United winger, Adam Diallo marked his debut at the World Cup with a goal scoring the winner in the 90th minute.
Diallo came off the bench to seal the win for the Elephants in a game the South Americans could have wrapped up in the first half.
Ecuador started the tie the better side as they struck the post twice in the first thirty minutes as the Ivorians struggled to settle into the game.
Yahia Fofana pulled off a brilliant save to deny Gonzalo Plata from scoring the opener with twenty minutes to regulation time.
Amad Diallo found himself in space and placed the ball in the bottom corner off a pass from Wilfred Singo.
The win takes Côte d’Ivoire to the second spot in Group E behind Germany after the four-time champions annihilated debutants Curaçao in the group opener.
