Super Eagles striker Rafiu Durosinmi maintained his strong beginning at KRC Genk by finding the net in the side’s 4-0 win against SK Beveren in the Belgian Pro League on Friday.
The Nigerian opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the ninth minute at the Cegeka Arena, setting Genk on the path to a straightforward triumph.
Junya Ito then extended the lead, with Josue Ndenge Kongolo making it 3-0 before the break, and Joris Kayembe wrapping up the scoring after half-time.
That strike marked Durosinmi’s fourth consecutive league goal since his arrival at Genk, underlining the forward’s outstanding start to the campaign.
Commenting on his latest contribution and early performances, Durosinmi shared his satisfaction and praised his teammates for simplifying his role.
“I feel very good and, above all, I am very happy. This is a good start. The team helped me to score. We have a lot of quality in the squad and when you have a good group, it becomes easier to play,” he said as quoted by Het Belang van Limburg.
The 23-year-old also spoke about how rapidly he has adapted to life at Genk, even with the contrasts to his previous experiences.
“Life in Genk is difficult and different from what I am used to, but from my first day I have felt good with this team. Everyone helps each other and that makes it easier to settle in immediately and feel at home,” he revealed.
“No, I don’t know. Everyone asks me that, but I’ve never measured it. Maybe we should look into that sometime. That’s just natural,” he said.
He also looked back on Genk’s reaction after their earlier 4-4 draw, stressing the value of pairing goals with a solid defensive display.
“You could see what happened in our previous match. Now we scored and kept a clean sheet, that is the most important thing,” he added.
The striker further noted that the team’s unified work without possession proved key to the shutout against Beveren.
“We stood compact and started pressing immediately. Everyone was willing to help each other. We really defended as a team. That helps to keep a clean sheet,” he concluded.
Durosinmi will aim to keep up his goalscoring momentum throughout his time in Belgium, with his displays potentially boosting his prospects of a Super Eagles recall ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Rafiu Durosinmi made his Super Eagles debut at the Unity Cup in June and will hope to get another invitation ahead of the qualifiers.
