Arsenal cruises to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a 4-2 win away at Ipswich Town, headlining a night of third-round action that also saw Chelsea, Liverpool, Fulham and Brentford book their places in the next round.
Mikel Arteta’s side were made to work harder than expected at Portman Road, with Ipswich netting twice, but the visitors’ four goals proved enough to see them through and continue their unbeaten start to the season across all competitions following Saturday’s win at Sunderland.
In other results, Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Anfield, with Andoni Iraola’s side finding a third goal in added time to put the tie beyond doubt and book their place in round four.
Brentford also progressed, coming from behind to beat Reading 2-1 on the road, while Fulham edged out West Ham United 3-2 in an entertaining London derby at the London Stadium.
Peterborough United and Barnsley needed penalties to be separated after a 3-3 draw, with Peterborough eventually prevailing 7-6 in the shoot-out to advance to the fourth round.
The fourth-round draw will now take shape once the remaining third-round fixtures conclude on Wednesday and Thursday, with holders Manchester City, Manchester United and Aston Villa among the sides still chasing silverware this season.
Manchester United will come to Brighton at Old Trafford as the Red Devils hope to shake off their derby loss on Sunday. Manchester City are at home to Norwich City, while Aston Villa take a trip to Coventry.
