Lionel Messi scored his 930th career goal with a stunning free-kick as Inter Miami were held to a 2-2 draw by San Diego FC in Major League Soccer on Sunday night.
San Diego took an early lead in the 12th minute when Anders Dreyer finished a through ball from Jeppe Tverskov with a composed chip over Inter Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair.
Messi restored parity 12 minutes later after he was fouled just outside the penalty area. The Argentine stepped up and curled a left-footed free-kick around the wall, with the ball hitting the post before crossing the line.
The strike was Messi’s 20th MLS goal of the 2026 season and the 75th free-kick goal of his career.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Messi has now reached 930 career goals, including 101 goals for Inter Miami.
The milestone came just four days after Messi scored his 100th goal for the club during Inter Miami’s Campeones Cup victory over Cruz Azul.
Inter Miami took the lead in the 74th minute when Luis Suárez found the back of the net, but San Diego responded eight minutes from full time as Dreyer scored his second of the night to make it 2-2.
The result means Inter Miami have now drawn their last four MLS matches. They sit on 46 points from 26 games, with 12 wins, four defeats and 10 draws.
At 39, Messi continues to add to his remarkable scoring record while remaining a key figure in Inter Miami’s MLS campaign.
