UFC star, Israel Adesanya has filed a $5 million lawsuit against Afrobeats artist, Superstar YB, for unauthorised use of his voice in hit song.
The song, titled Jealous (Faaji) features fellow Nigerian musician, Terry Apala features a a voice clip of Adesanya in the intro where he declared himself “a two-division UFC champion.” The song went viral, peaking at number 4 on Apple Music’s Top 100 Worldwide Chart.
Efforts to contact representatives from both Adesanya and Superstar YB’s teams have been unsuccessful. It remains to be seen how the case will unfold, but it underscores the importance of respecting intellectual property rights, even in the creative arts.
