The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been subjected to hostile conditions on their arrival in Libya for a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

Ahead of the return qualifying match in Benina, Libyan officials have acted on their promise to treat the Super Eagles and the Nigerian delegation inhumanely.

Super Eagles delayed at Libyan airport

The aircraft carrying the Nigerian delegation to Benghazi was yesterday rerouted to another city which is a two-hour drive from the intended destination.

This is due to the false information distributed to Libyans by Captain of the Mediterranean Knights, Faisal Al-Badri, claiming that the team was transported from Port Harcourt to Uyo in a rickety, non-air-conditioned bus after experiencing delays.

For several hours, the players and their representatives were confined to the arrival hall of Al Abaq Airport and were not permitted to exit the premises.

A member of the Nigerian delegation uploaded a video of the chaotic situation at the airport yesterday featuring police and aviation security staff.

The Super Eagles made a layover in Kano before departing Nigeria for Benghazi, Libya, to play in the 2025 AFCON qualifying 2nd leg match scheduled for Tuesday.

The Libyans had first agreed to allow the chartered flight to land in Benghazi, but they later changed their minds and the plane was diverted to Al Abaq.
