The Super Eagles of Nigeria, three-time African champions, destroyed the Cheetahs of Benin Republic 3-0 in their inaugural Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

When Nigeria plays Rwanda on Tuesday afternoon at the Amahoro National Stadium in Kigali, they plan to keep playing the win-and-smile style.

The significance of the game was highlighted by team captain William Ekong during the pre-game press conference on Monday at Amahoro Stadium, shortly before the Eagles’ official practice.

He said, “We are here for a purpose. With Coach Eguavoen, who has coached the team before, we all feel like a family.

The Eagles and Amavubi will face off four times over the course of the upcoming year, starting on Tuesday.

The two teams will play each other in the final round of this qualifying tournament in Nigeria in November.

They will also play a home-and-away match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with the Wasps hosting Nigeria in March of 2025.
