Here is a roundup of African players scoring performances in the EPL from boxing day till yesterday.
MANCHESTER CITY VS LEICESTER CITY
Algerian kingpin Riyad Mahrez continued his fine form for City by scoring his side’s second in a game that had 9 goals which ended 6:3 in favour of the guys from the blue side of Manchester. He scored from the spot and his goal against his former team made it his 5th in the EPL this season.
In the same game, Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho scored against his former team to make it 4:3 and looked like a potential comeback. Iheanacho had a brace of assist for Madison and Lookman for his team’s first two goals before he scored their third and his second of the season. Iheanacho is currently struggling with playing time and form and the AFCON won’t do his goal tally for Leicester any good as he would be representing Nigeria in Africa’s biggest footballing showpiece.
WEST HAM VS SOUTHAMPTON
Algerian’s midfielder Said Benrahma scored West Ham’s second goal in a 2:3 home loss to Southampton. His goal took his tally to 4 this season in the EPL and his 7th in all competitions.
DECEMBER 28
CRYSTAL PALACE VS NORWICH
Ghanian international Jeffrey Schlupp scored Palace’s third in an easy win which Viera’s men won 3:0 and all three goals came in the first half. Schlupp has struggled with playing time this campaign but started this one and got a goal to prove his worth in the starting lineup. He now has 2 goals for Palace this season in the Premier League.
WATFORD VS WEST HAM
Nigeria’s attacker Emmanuel Dennis gave his side the lead just with four minutes played but they ended up losing in embarrassing fashion 1:4. Dennis now has 8 goals in only 16 games for Watford that’s a goal in every two games for Ranieri’s team.
In the same match, Saïd Benrahma scored once again in back to back games in a space of two days to give his side the lead in a come back win which ended 1:4 in favour of the away side. Benrahma now has 5 goals in the EPL in this campaign.
