The decisive moment came just before the hour mark when Jarrod Bowen capitalized on a flick from Niclas Füllkrug to score the only goal of the game.
Southampton began the match with vigor, creating several scoring opportunities in the first half. Striker Paul Onuachu was notably involved, missing three significant chances to put the Saints.
The match was not without controversy. West Ham’s midfielder Guido Rodríguez was initially shown a red card for a reckless challenge. However, after a VAR review, referee Lewis Smith downgraded the sanction to a yellow card, a decision that drew mixed reactions from fans and analysts alike.
